Come for an unforgettable adventure with the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre (CFDC). Experience the outdoors of the Manitoba Escarpment while excavating 80 million year old fossils. Bring any fossils or rocks you’ve always wanted identified.

WHAT

Begin with a tour of the CFDC, followed by an exciting talk and identification session by a paleontologist and geologist. You are then transported to the dig site where you will have an opportunity to search and excavate 80 million year old fossils.

 

WHO

Anyone interested in digging up fossils for 2 whole days.
Ages 12 and up.
Limited space, so register fast!

 

WHERE

The tour and talks will take place at the CFDC. Digsites are located on the Manitoba Escarpment, a 20 minute drive from Morden.

   

WHEN
Weekends: July 5-6, 19-20, August 2-3, 16-17, 30-31

Weekdays: Monday to Friday in July and August (call for availability)

   

COST
1 Person = $150.00

Group Rate = Additional $75.00 per person

Maximum: 7 Participants

Note: A minimum number of participants are required for a tour. CFDC will coordinate individual and group applicants to meet minimum requirements.Price does not include accomodation costs.

PACKAGE DETAILS
Your adventure begins with a tour of the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre, followed by an exciting talk and identification session by a geologist. Enjoy lunch at the dig site compliments of the CFDC. The remainder of the time will be spent fossil hunting and excavating. Package includes:

  • Centre tour
  • Transportation to and from dig site
  • Snacks and beverages at the dig-site
  • Complimentary lunch with CFDC staff

  10:00 Meet at Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre
  10:00 – 11:00 Tour the CFDC
  11:00 – 11:15 Break and hand out information packages
  11:15 – 12:00 Check in at B & B or Hotel
  12:00 – 1:00 Lunch (supplied by CFDC )
  1:00 Meet back at the CFDC
  1:00 – 1:30 Drive out to Dig Site with CFDC van
  1:30 – 2:00 Review and Discuss Field Techniques
  2:00 – 5:00 Dig / Excavate (breaks at site - snacks & drinks provided by CFDC)
  5:00 Drive back to Morden & return to B & B or Hotel
     
  2nd Day   10:00 am – 5:00 pm
  10:00 Meet at the CFDC
  10:00 – 10:30 Paleontologist’s Talk
(discuss finds and concerns from previous day dig and any questions)
  10:30 – 10:45 Break
  10:45 Drive out to Dig Site
  11:15 – 5:00 Dig / Excavate
  Lunch On site, at your leisure, lunch supplied CFDC
  5:00 Drive back to Morden

Memory Lane Inn - web site

Memory Lane Inn is a 1916 farmstead located on the Manitoba Escarpment just 12 minutes West of Morden. Meals are homemade, organic and local… please advise your host if you have special dietary needs or allergies. Meals are served in the farmhouse dining room or weather permitting, on the verandah. Guests are invited to relax in the attractive sunroom, living room or verandah and indulge yourself in a sauna on cooler days. Enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage in the evening with your host and fill up with a hearty breakfast in the morning to set you up for your fossil dig adventure. French language service is available. Opt to stay an extra night for a 2 night get-away.

Directions to Memory Lane Inn: Follow Highway #3 (Thornhill Street) West out of town for approximately 9 miles and turn North (right) on Mile Road 38 (there is wooden wagon at the corner). Proceed 1 mile and turn East (right) on Pioneer Trail. Take the first driveway on the South side (right). There is Memory Lane Inn sign by the driveway entrance.

A Wee Bit of Heaven - web site

A Wee Bit of Heaven is located in Morden within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. Guests can choose from 2 bedrooms with double beds or a luxury basement suite. One bedroom is decorated in a romantic Renaissance style, the other in an African style. The basement suite sleeps up to 5 people with a queen, double and single bed. It also features an on suite bathroom, satellite, TV/DVD/VHS, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and private entrance. Enjoy a full hot breakfast and fresh ground coffee in the morning with your choice of belguim waffles, sausage, ham, bacon and eggs. Please advise your host of any dietary needs or allergies. Pets and smoking are not allowed in the house. Please note there is a family pet… an old, quiet poodle. Opt to stay an extra night for a 2 night get-away. Please make arrangements in advance.

The Morden Super 8 Motel is a clean and attractive property offering a quiet location 1/4 miles west of Morden. The motel offers a spacious lobby and breakfast area.
